What are the routes?
You can view the maps of the routes in this section: ROUTES
What type of bicycles are allowed?
Being a draft legal triathlon only conventional road bicycles, MTBs and touring or hybrid bicycle are allowed.
On the road bicycles only traditional “drop style” handlebar and break levers are allowed. Handlebars with built-in aerobars are not allowed.
On the MTB handlebars extensions are not allowed.
No other bicycles accessories (rear rack, front basket,…) are allowed.
No other kind of bicycles are allowed; long distance triathlon bicycles, time trial bicycles, folding bicycles, electric bicycles and public transport service bicycles (Bicing or similar).
When will I known the time of my wave start?
During the last week when you will receive the last minute information. The start waves depend on the stimated time indicated during the registration.

¿When will I have to go to the swim start?
We recommend you to get to the swim start area some 30 minutes before you wave start. The swim start for all distances will be a beach start from the Nova Mar Bella beach (the second beach from the Forum).
How will the swim start go?
You will be called 10 minutes before your wave start time to go to the swim pre-start area. You will know by the colour of your swimming cap.
From there you will be able to access the swim start area 3 or 4 minutes before you wave start.
This means that there will be two areas, a pre-start area and a start area from where you will start swimming.
What is the expected water temperature for the event?
Water temperature is expected to be around 21ºC (69.8 F), so we strongly recommend packing a wetsuit.
How many people will be in my wave start?
We will reduce the number of participants in each wave start to half the number of previous years. We will do this by reducing the number from 400 to just 200 to give you plenty of room to swim and enter transition smoothly.

How many laps will I have to complete in the cycle leg?
4 laps at the Olympic distance race.
2 laps at the Sprint distance race.
1 lap at the Supersprint distance race.
Remember that it is you are responsible counting your laps.
How difficult is the cycle route?
Nothing at all. It is a flat fast course on city roads closed to traffic. There are 12 well signed curves but you must take best caution, especially if you are riding in a big group.
Remember to ride always on the right to allow faster riders to pass you.
Will there be bike technical support on race day?
Yes, there will be bike technical support just next to the main entrance of the Pavilion where the race pack collection and Tri Expo takes place.
It will be opened from 6:00 AM.
Is drafting allowed?
Yes, it is a popular race and drafting will be allowed, including those of the opposite sex.
Don’t worry If you don’t feel comfortable riding in a peloton, just maintain a safety distance between your and the rider in front of you.
What happens if I have technical problems during the race?
If you are in you last lap and you are close enough from transition to reach even walking, do it. Remember it’s a multi-lap course.
Otherwise, and if it’s a race-ending technical issue, then organization staff will detect your position and take you and your bicycle back to the transition area.

Can I run with a smartphone, Ipod, or other music device?
No, it is not safe to do so. You will be unable to hear other competitors or the marshals when you are wearing one and consequently pose a threat to others.
Will there be Kilometre indications on the run course?
Yes, there will be Kilometer indicators for the 3 different race distances.
Can I run with the same clothes I wear during the cycle?
Yes, just remember you must have your chest covered during the cycle and run.
How many aid stations will be there and what will they offer?
Olympic distance race - 3 aid stations at Kilometers 2, 5 and 8 offering water and Powerade. At the 5 Km you will also find energy gels.
Sprint distance race - 2 aid stations at Kilometers 2 and 3 offering water and Powerade.
Supersprint distance race – you will find water and Powerade just leaving the transition.
Please try to use the bins provided once you’ve finished your drink!

What will I find at the finish?
First of all, you are going to be really happy for your achievement. Well done!
At the same time you will get a finisher medal. Get a drink and fruit to recover from your effort.
You will also be able to enjoy a great musical entertainment.
Can my family run down the finish line with me?
You can do it but we do not recommend it due to the complexity of the finish area and access difficulties back to the public area, especially if you go with children. It is preferable that your family wait for you outside the finish area.
What is the distance between the Finish to the Transition area?
200 mts. in the Olympic distance race and 500 mts. in the Sprint distance and Supersprint distance races.

What do I have to do in the first transition between swim and cycle?
If you're not an expert triathlete, take your time. It is not important to lose a few seconds. The first thing you should do is to find your bicycle. Use the numbered signs and visual references to get to your racking area.
The stopwatch does not stop in the transition. No one can help you at any time during the race.
Put your helmet on and buckle it. If you touch the bicycle without a helmet you will be sanctioned.
Put on the race belt. In the cycle leg it must be visible on the back.
The chest must be covered during the cycle and run. If you have swum only with short or a men’s bather you’ll have to wear a top or T-shirt.
You cannot jump on your bicycle until you leave the transition zone and pass the mount line.
What do I have to do in the second transition between cycle and run?
Slow down a bit in the last meters of the cycle leg, and look ahead for the dismount line.
Dismount before entering the transition area following the official’s directions.
Don’t unbuckle the helmet until you rack you bicycle in your spot.
Make sure you leave your equipment and belongings in your spot, not to impede another participant and not to lose anything.
Your race bib number will have to be at the front before you leave the transition area for the run.

How does the relay triathlon work?
The Relay teams can be made up of 2 or 3 members of single or mixed gender. No need to have three members, one of them can complete two disciplines, regardless of the order.
It is NOT required that all the team members are present at the time of collecting the race packs. A single member is all it’s needed, although the organization recommends to go all team members.
On race day, all team members will need to access the transition area (check-in) together.
How do the transitions work for the relay triathlon?
  • The team swimmer wears the timing chip on his/her ankle for the swim leg.
  • Upon completed the swim, the team swimmer runs to the rack in the transition area where the team’s bicycle is. There the team cyclist will be waiting ready with the helmet and race belt on. The team swimmer will hand off the timing chip to him/her to start the cycle.
  • Once returned to transition, the team cyclist must rack his/her bicycle before he/she can pass the race belt and timing chip before the team runner can leave on the run leg. Team runners must wait in their rack position in the transition area.
  • Triathlon relay participants must ensure they do not impede one another while switching from one discipline to the next one.
Can we cross the finish line together?
Yes. 100 mts. from the finish line you will find an access point. Then you can run together as a team across the finish line!
Can we participate as a team relay in the Supersprint distance race?
Yes. This year we make it even easier for you, so you don’t have excuses. You can participate as a Team Relay in any of the three distances.

Who can enter in the Pairs format?
Any body that can complete the full triathlon and wants to do it together from start to finish. At each time control we will verify that the 2 of you go together. You can participate with your partner, a friend, a family member or who you want to share this experience.
Can the two of you help each other?
Yes, as long as you go always together.
Will there be a separate results table for the pairs race?
Yes, there will be a separate results table for the Pairs race.
At which distance races can we race as a pair?
At any of the three distance races: Olympic, Sprint or Supersprint. The only requirement is that the two of you go always together.

The sea front promenade stretches for 2.5 km from Mar Bella beach to Port Olympic and will offer plenty of vantage points for spectators to follow the race.

Much of the run route runs parallel to the cycle, so from the Nova Icaria and Bogatell beaches you can get a great view of the cycle and run legs at the same time.

Moreover, both the Ciutadella park and avenue Lluís Companys will allow you to enjoy the run in a central, spectacular and unusual environment in triathlon.

Near Plaça dels Voluntaris, next to the Mapfre Tower and Hotel Arts, a back and forth loop of the run route offers the possibility to follow runners on multiple times.

The best option for getting there by public transport is the tube. The Selva de Mar (a 1 km.) and Ciutadella-Vila Olímpica (a 1.5 km.) stations are on line 4 (yellow). Operating from 5:00 AM and bicycles are allow all day Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

The entire cycle route will be closed to vehicle traffic from 7:45.

The best option for getting there on race day if you come from within Barcelona and the distance is not very big is to ride your bicycle. Once there, you can leave your belongings at the storage area for safe keeping.

Getting there by car you can use the public parking located between the transition area pits and the Forum (unpaved parking). Take Ronda Litoral direction Besos and go out at exit 24. This exit will be opened until 07:00 Sunday morning.

Those arriving by car after 07:00 on Sunday will have to park in the private parkings at the Forum or at Port Olympic (both are paying parkings).
